This results have been used in other meta-analyses, such as the “Vulcan Analysis” in PubMed (Larsson et al., 2009), as well studies of the efficacy or hazards of cannabis (Koppel & Cates, 2007; Barfield et al., 2007; Lehi & Greenfield, 2010). In practice, we have developed a broad, systematic database that integrates data from more than 16 different public health agencies to provide better characterization of risk in cannabis use. The database includes additional research studies and systematic reviews. Among the numerous studies evaluating specific aspects of Cannabis and other medicinal drug use in people with preclinical and psychotic disorders, we have included additional studies that study whether using cannabis is an effective or risk factor for the most recent psychosis onset in patients with schizophrenia and others with borderline psychotic disorder. A subset of this has been included in a separate issue of the journal Substance Abuse (Lyon et al., 2011; Sacco et al., 2011). Following these public health sources, only a subset of these studies are currently accepted into the accepted published literature as safe to use. Since there are several other factors that influence daily cannabis use decisions, it is important to note that information that is derived from non-physiological data from one or more studies, such as demographic information regarding cannabis use, has not yet been reported in the current issue of “Clinical Studies in Substance Abuse”.
